upgrade 3.5

Hi All,

Maybe anyone know where I can find an upgrade to Aperture 3.5.

I have just upgrade my MacBook Air from OSX 8 to OSX 9 (Mavericks).

So I can upgrade my Aperture version form 3.4.5 to 3.5 (so I can be raw compatible with my new Panasonic LX-100 - great camera btw).

However, In the App store I only see Incompatible software as Aperture 3.6 (for which I need Yosemite) which I do not want.

Any ideas?

Thank in advance. Nice to Know (NL)

Hi Léonie,

I just found a workaround to get it installed. That is if you purchased Aperture once before in the App Store.

  1. Connect an external drive to your Mac(Book).
  2. Go to Applications.
  3. Copy the Aperture (3.4.5) application to the external drive.
  4. Delete the Aperture application from your Mac(Book) (to your Trash bin).
  5. Empty your Trash bin.
  6. Disconnect your extrenal drive.
  7. Go to the App Store.
  8. Go to Purhased section (log in, if needed).
  9. There you will find Aperture, ready to install.
  10. Click Install.
  11. When ready, got to the Aperture icon in your Dock and start Aperture.
  12. And voila, Aperture 3.5.1 shows up.

That is really good news, Nicetoknow. The update procedure you describe is the one I outlined in this user tip for Aperture 3.6: Updating to Aperture 3.6 After the Release of Photos

It did not work previously for Aperture 3.5.1 on Mavericks as it should.

  1. Click Install.
  2. When ready, got to the Aperture icon in your Dock and start Aperture.
  3. And voila, Aperture 3.5.1 shows up.

Apple must have finally fixed it - good to know. Previously the AppStore would not show 3.5.1 for reinstalling, if the mac could be upgraded to Yosemite or El Capitan.

Thank you for pointing this out! That will make it easier for a lot of Aperture users.

Yes, updating is not possible at all using the updates tab. We can only update by reinstalling, and for that the application must not be seen by Spotlight.

Funny, because I also have Lightroom 5 on my MacBook Air and with that I can process the RAW files with no problem (also before under OSX 10.8).

Lightroom 5 is using Adobe RAW and not the RAW support installed for OS X. And Adobe RAW is not tied to the OS X version you are running like Apple'S RAW updates.

The RAW support you are looking for requires Aperture 3.6 and Yosemite at least, see this download link:

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01

System Requirements

OS X 10.10 w/ iPhoto 9.6 or Aperture 3.6

Hi Léonie,

Note that you do have to set your Aperture 3.4 application out-of-sight first, because otherwise a grey install button is still showed in the App Store.

In the end however, it did not help me to process the RAW files for my recently bought Panasonic Lumix LX-100.

It appears to be linked with supported RAW formats as of OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
