Q: My Macbook Air takes a lot of time to start after hitting the power button

Hi,

This is weird scenario what I am facing with my Mac Book Air Mid 2013 Version, OS X 10.11.5

The Air refuses to start after hitting the power button. It takes a lot of time after hitting the power button to hearing the chime, sometimes it does not even start. When it starts it is stuck at the loading grey screen.

I have to force hold the power button shut it down and press the power button again, everything seems to be fine.

If I wait for a long enough time for it to load and reach the home screen, the performance is not there, a normal 480p video does not play smoothly (loads of jerks) on QuickTime player, I have to restart then everything seems to be fine performance is back.

I have noticed this problem only when I have Shut Down / Sleep  the Mac and not use it for 3hrs or greater. If I shut down the mac and start it again after 15 min No issues at all.

Every evening after i get back from work to get the laptop started i have to hit the power button wait till the apple logo screen then force restart the Mac again for it to work fine. Can anyone give me any suggestions over this issue ?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Nik

    Try the following:

Reset the SMC and the NVRAM:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

    Then try a safe boot:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

    Any change?

    If not, run Apple diagnostics:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202731lso

Also download and post an Etrecheck report:

On the Etrecheck report there is some adware that you should remove.  Also rid the MBA of the torrent application.  Torrents are an excellent medium to introduce malware on a Mac.

Aside from those items, the Etrecheck report shows no other problems.

Your best option now is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  The  evaluation will be free.  Do backup your data first because they may choose to erase the drive and reinstall the OSX.

    Ciao.
