My Ipod not being recognized

My ipod is not being recognized by my computer. it says that it is connected and it will charge, but I cannot download anything to it. The icon that says its connected does not appear. I have the latest update.

iPod nano (5th generation), iOS 7.0.2

Did it work before?

With a 5G or later you need Win 7 or later and iTunes 12.3 or later.
