This graphics configuration does not support hardware acceleration, which is required to run iMovie.

This is the message I get every time I attempt to open Imovie

OSX EL CAPITAN Version 10.11.5

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

These are my specs and I have pretty much no idea what I can do. I've restarted my computer, double checked that I have my computer updated and I'm not sure from there.

Any insight would be very helpful, thank you

The error message indicates a problem with the graphics card, but your iMovie version should be compatible even with older cards. iMovie 10 is less restrictive with respect to graphic cards than the previous iMovie '11. Try to boot into safe mode, then back to normal mode to clear some caches, (see: Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support)

And then try again to launch iMovie.
