Q: iPhone 6s A1688 compatible with Verizon

Hello, I have just bought another iPhone 6s model A1688; previously I used to have another 6s model A1688, however, when I put the Verizon nano-sim, I could only use LTE, hence could not make any calls or received calls. I went to an Apple Store, and they told me that my iPhone 6s was locked, however, when I got back to my country, I could use any nano-sim, for any carrier.

I have already looked at Apple website about iPhone 6s models compatibility with carrier, and it says that the model A1688 is compatible with Verizon; therefore, I want to know which are the steps in order to configure my new iPhone 6s, in order to make and receive calls with Verizon; I have already make sure that my new iPhone 6s is unlocked.

Thanks for the help.

    Hi Solomonx1,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you're unable to make and receive calls on Verizon LTE when traveling internationally.

Use Make calls using Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and make sure that Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is enabled on your iPhone, specifically, this section:

    Turn on VoLTE

Some carriers turn on this feature by default. To find out if VoLTE is on, go to Settings > Cellular > Enable LTE. If Voice & Data is off, tap it. This turns on VoLTE.

Additional information can be found here.

If you can‘t make or receive calls on your iPhone

    Best Regards.

Verizon can use any unlocked iPhone 6S except those original intended for sale in China. However, I believe you'll need to go into a Verizon store and have them activate the phone for you. I'm not sure that putting an already active Verizon SIM into the phone is going to work.

Thanks for the support Corrie84; however, when I tried to put Voice & Data option, each time I tap it, automatically returned to Data Only. Verizon told me that Apple needed to "Flash my iPhone"; then at Apple they told me that my iPhone was locked, which it wasn't the case, because I could use Verizon LTE.

So, I sold that iPhone, and yesterday bought a new one, and I have make sure that is unlocked; next week I will be in the US, so I hope that it will work.

No, the phone doesn't need to be "flashed". I'm not sure who at Verizon is telling you that but they are wrong. When you get to the U.S., go into a Verizon store (not a reseller) and have them activate the phone.

Note: I do not believe that the phone will work on Verizon's prepaid service. It will only work on monthly billed service.

Oh I see, I have the prepaid service form Verizon..., so there is no way that will work with my iPhone, even though, my model supports Verizon network?

    Thanks.

Correct. At this point, Verizon only supports "bring your own device" on prepaid.

So, do you know any US carrier, that supports prepaid plans?

    Thanks for all the help.
