I can understand wanting to make sure that you haven't lost your contacts and pictures even though your screen is not working properly. There are a few ways to check to see if you can still access your contacts and pictures depending on how you set your iPhone up. 

The first thing that you can check is your iCloud account. You can log in to https://www.icloud.com from any computer with your Apple ID. Once you're logged in, click on the Contacts icon and check to see if your contacts are there. 

If you had iCloud Photo Library set up, you should also be able to see your pictures from the same website, or on any other devices that might have had iCloud Photo Library turned on. This page goes over iCloud Photo Library and everything you need to check for your photos:

You may have also synced your contacts to your computer using iTunes if you've ever plugged it in via USB and synced it. Also, If you've ever backed up your iPhone to iTunes or iCloud, you'll have access to all of your contacts and photos saved in the backup.
