Q: iCloud not syncing between IE and Safari

In the last few weeks, my bookmarks/favorites in IE 11 (running on Windows 10) and Safari (running on my iPhone and iPad) stopped syncing.  I have stale bookmarks on all my iDevices.  This was being done successfully for many months or years using the  iCloud app on my PC.

I have tried removing the iCloud app and reinstalling and restarting it.  I have also tried turning off and on the sync of bookmarks on the iDevices under iCloud menu.  I have also tried a restore from iCloud.com to "all devices".  What I consistently see is that iCloud and my iDevices have a stale set of bookmarks and are not getting any of the changes made in IE 11 on my PC.

FYI:  The PC is syncing IE 11 bookmarks across PC devices.

Any suggestions on why the iCloud app on my PC seems to have stopped "getting" updates from IE and propagating them to the iCloud and my iDevices?

    Hey Dav_Car,

Thanks for asking for help here on the Apple Communities. It seems that your iCloud sync between your iPhone, iPad, and PC have not been updating. I recommend the following troubleshooting.

    1. Make sure you have a backup of all your data in both iOS devices, and your PC. How to back up your iOS devices using iCloud or iTunes

    2. If you have data you absolutely can not lose, you can also create a separate backup of the iCloud data if you would feel more secure with that. Use this article to do that. Archive or make copies of your iCloud data

    3. Go to iCloud.com. Log in with your Apple ID. If you are able to log in go to the next steps. If not, check If you forgot your Apple ID password or If you forgot the answers to your Apple ID security questions.

    4. Sign out of iCloud on the iPhone and iPad. Settings > iCloud.

    5. Sign out of iCloud on your PC.

    6. Restart the iPhone, iPad, and PC.

    7. On the PC, open iCloud for Windows, and log in again.

    8. On the iOS device, go back to Settings > iCloud on the and sign in to iCloud on both these devices too.

Your bookmarks should start syncing again. Ensure you are on an open wireless or internet network, and that you do not have any firewalls or virus protection blocking the necessary ports for iCloud. You can find a listing of the necessary ports here: TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products. You can check the necessary requirements for Wi-Fi and routers using this article: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points. You can also test to see if the ports are open to be absolutely sure, using this article: Testing TCP port connectivity between computers and devices.

    Cheer.

This did not have any effect.  I saw the bookmarks load to Safari on the iDevices (they were not there, and then they were), but the re-loaded bookmarks are the stale ones.  It'd be nice if I could see what bookmarks are in the iCloud, but unfortunately iCloud.com does not let you inspect bookmarks.  It feels as if the issue is with iCloud App on Windows actually updating the cloud with the bookmarks stored on the PC in c:/Users:/[username]/Favorites.

    Any other suggestions.

    Dav_Car,

Thanks for continuing here in the Apple Communities. Sorry those suggestions did not resolve the issue. I can only think of two more suggestions. One, if you have a Mac to log in to, you should try that. This step is just to see if the information syncs properly from the Mac, to the iOS devices. This will help you isolate the issue and determine if it is with the iCloud for Windows app on your PC.

The second thing I can recommend is to contact Apple. You can use this link: Contact Apple Support

    Cheers.
