Q: Time Capsule Power Failure

I have a 3TB Airport Time Capsule purchased in 2014. Serial # starts with C86M... Version is 77700.6. I've never once had a problem with it until 2 days ago. It works just fine and suddenly powers down completely. I'll notice my wi-fi signal is lost so I go to look at the Capsule and see that there's no indicator light and it's off. I unplug the Capsule, plug it back in and it boots up and works fine. 3-4 hours later, same thing, power goes off. Now I want to specify that this Capsule is plugged into a surge protector which is plugged into my wall. There are 3 other devices plugged into the same surge protector and none of those devices go off or have any power issues at all. I DO remember Apple having an issue with certain Time Capsules manufactured in 2012 that they replaced due to the same issue. Can anyone explain this? Thanks.

    Hi RMCluesman,

I see from your post that you are having issues with your AirPort Time Capsule. Having reliable Wi-Fi and a backup with a Time Capsule is a great thing.

Let's start by verifying the software is correct and not causing the issue.

Resetting an AirPort base station FAQ

If the issue still occurs after reset, the AirPort Time Capsule would need to be looked at by an Apple Authorized Service provider. You can see all the local service providers at

    Cheers.

Power failure on the Gen5 TC and equivalent model AE (Gen6) is common in some batches.

If you have applecare on computer, ipad or appleTV, it will be replaced.. otherwise apple will say bad luck you need to buy a new one.

However if you actually purchased it under 2 years ago you can still buy applecare on a product in the list or you can buy a new Apple TV and applecare for it.. Return the AppleTV unopened as you only need the applecare which you cannot purchase on the TC. Check with apple sales to make sure the same rules apply in your area.
