No group permissions?

When i make a new file or folder and check the permissions it looks like this:

User uploaded file

No group permissions. This leads to problems when i upload my documents to my dropbox.

How can i fix this? (El Capitan 11.10.3)

thanks.

It's actually a Synologie sync that works like dropbox. There are multiple clients that use Synologie sync and one of them has problems with syncing.

It stalls or nobody can open his files. When i compare all the mac's from those users the only thing that is different is that when this user makes a new folder or file he has no "group" at the permissions.

When i myself make a new folder or textedit file and put it on my desktop it instantly gets a user, group (wheel) and everyone. But not this guy. My hunch is that this is the cause of his syncing problems..

I would check the value of the umask environment variable.

To check the value, open Terminal application and at the shell prompt type umask.

(That is, type only the word umask and hit enter.)

I suspect that your file has no permissions set for group and therefore non are printed by 'get info'.

BTW - my umask value is set to 22.

read about setting umask values by typing man umask at the Terminal shell prompt.

Since you are not using a true file server to serve files, the best way to handle this is to create ACLs on the folders which will allow all members of the group to modify the files you store in that location.

See this thread: Re: Granting full control for every user on folder Users/Shared?

You don't need to modify stuff on a per-user basis. You just have to add the users to the group.
