Q: ePubs not copying into iBooks

So I have an iPhone 6s and an iPad Air v1 and when I try to move and ePub into iBooks it does not copy in....

The odd thing?? It works on another iPad mini and another iPad Air v1 that I tried??

Here is what I did and have tried on these two devices:

  1. Visited the site: http://math.hws.edu/javanotes/
  2. Tapped the link about half way down for the ePub
  3. The window that pops up, I tap Open in iBooks....
  4. My iPad and iPhone both open iBooks but the book never appears

I have tried downloading the book into

iPad Air, iOS 9.3.2

    Hello Brian!

I know it's important to you to get all your ePub books working on all your devices, so they are there when you need them.  I am happy to offer suggestions for you to try.

Since this particular book works on other iPads, we need to see what's different about your iPhone 6s and iPad Air.  Is your iOS software completely up-to-date?  You can find out how to do that here:

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

When you're trying to download the book from the HWS website, are you using a Wi-Fi connection, or a cellular data network?  If you're using Wi-Fi, try using either a different network, or your cellular connection (please keep in mind that you'll be using your data for the download).  This document has lots of great information on the iBooks app in general:

    Frequently asked questions about iBooks

Does the same thing happen if you try to download an ePub file from a different site, using those two devices?  That would help you know if it's only an issue with that particular file, something going on with iOS on both devices, or with the iBooks app.

Sometimes resetting Safari's website data can help with issues like the one you're describing.  To do that, tap Settings > Safari > "Clear History and Website Data", then tap "Clear History and Data" to confirm.  Try the download again after that reset.

Have a fantastic rest of your week!

What do you mean with: My iPad and iPhone both open iBooks but the book never appears ?

Just test on iPad 2 & iPhone 6S, on both devices I can open the ePub.
