Q: Latest for Keynote Remotes?

I want to use a remote for a Keynote presentation I'll be giving.  It'll be my first using a remote, but what is the latest --should I buy one (if so, which?) or what is the latest and best app for me to use my iPhone as the remote (which I'd prefer, one less gadget to lose!)?

Please use simple language with me, a digital non-native.

I am using my aging MacBook Pro with OSX 10.7.5, my Keynote is 5.1.1 and my iPhone is a 6S.

Thanks!

Using one method over another is a personal preference, my preference as a trainer and lecturer working in many different venues is to use Keynote for iOS, it has a built in Remote Control feature:

tap to go to next slide

    swipe to previous slide

    onscreen marker pen tool

    on screen highlighter

the iPad displays the presenter display,  showing next slide and presenter notes of the presentation on the Mac

there must be a wifi network present that you can log into; many businesses educational institutions lock non-registered users by default

The Keynote iOS website is here:    Keynote for iOS

    Belated thank you's, Gary.

I have an ipad from work that I can use, but I've never been sold on them because they seem bulky to me.

It would be nice to use my iPhone, so I started to set it up as a remote using my personal hotspot but the two devices can't seem to find each other.  I then downloaded an app ("Remote Mouse") that got 5 star reviews but same problem, phone and laptop can't find each other. Do you know if this can be done using the personal hotspot?  I prefer this because I will be giving a presentation somewhere that has no wifi.

Another possible issue is that my laptop has Keynote 5.1.1.  I'm signed up for weekly automatic updates, but this doesn't update me to later KN versions, I take it.  What do I need to do to get the latest Keynote?

Thank you so much for your time and expertise!

I will be giving a presentation somewhere that has no wifi.

If the presenter display from an iPad or iPhone is not required, buy a radio frequency, handheld hardware remote control from   Logitech, Gyromouse, or Kingston.

They don't rely on a wifi signal and have a respectable 100 feet range. Don't use Bluetooth or infrared devices as they are not as reliable and require a close distance to work.
