Q: Looking for a docking station
I would like to find a docking station with a lightning connector, that charges, has a line out for connection to my amplifier, and a remote control. I am not looking for a unit that contains speakers or radios/alarm clocks. I don't want to use a 30-pin-to-lightning cable and have to lay the iPod down on the table either.
Amazon has an "Apple Universal Dock MB 125G/B" for sale. It has a 30-pin connector and a headphone - not line out. Customer comments on Amazon note the remote control does not always work well with the most common complaint being the audio control not working followed by you can't control the menus.Even if the remote works as advertised, by the time you put the 30-pin-to-lightning connector on, the weight of the iPod shifts the station so that tips backward. It claims to support and iPad, but if an iPod will cause this station to tip even slightly I doubt it will support the weight of an iTouch. There is also a listing for an MC 746LL/A which seems to suffer from the same problems as the 125G/B.
The Apple site lists an "iPhone Lightning Dock", but it's listed as a device for the iPhone 6/6S only. It has the headphone output that can be used for powered speakers. My admittedly limited experience is that using an output intended for powered speakers does not approach the sound quality of the powered speakers, at least not with my amplifier. There are comments from Apple that the remote only works with headsets.
An internet search has been unsuccessful.
Does anyone know of a product that meets, or comes close to meeting, what I wish to see?
Thanks
Mark
