MacBook Pro to Cinema HD Display

I want to use an Apple Cinema HD Display Model M8536 with my MacBook Pro running Yosemite with latest OS upgrade, but how to connect the two? I tried a USB cord between the two but it didn't work. Suggestions anyone?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), 16 gb RAM, SSD HardDrive

Thanks for your suggestion. Heres more info: The Cinema HD Display is connected to a PC (yes a PC) by using an Apple DVI to ADC Adapter. Its connected to the PC via a full size DVI Male connector along with a USB cable that shares the DVI cable connected to a USB slot on the back of the PC.

The mid 2012 MacBook Pro has 2 USB ports & a thunderbolt port. Do I need a thunderbolt to DVI adapter (if such an animal exists)?

Yes, USB does not on its own transfer Video. You'll need a Thunderbolt/Mini Display Port to DVI adapter, to plug that into the DVI to ADC adapter.

The USB cable is simply to make the USB ports on the display work. It has nothing to do with the video output.

Note that you may need to change the Resolution of your MacBook Pro to something the Display can handle.
