Black Screen when launching Apple Diagnostics

Hi folks,

my Late 2013 Mac Pro 6,1 (OSX 10.10.5) takes unusually long to launch (a few minutes) since a few days ago.

In verbose mode it takes awfully long loading the boot.efi

So first step for me was to run Apple Diagnostics to rule out any hardware based issues.

But neither pressing "D" nor the network based "Alt + D" launch the Apple Diagnostics tool.

It just gives me a black screen, no matter how long I press and wait.

The monitor is "active", so some kind of signal goes out, it's just...black.

Does anyone have an idea what is causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

Try the following:

- Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM

- Then disconnect everything except mouse, keyboard, Ethernet (if used) monitor and power and boot with the D key depressed. Best is to use a wired keyboard.

Mac's introduced after June 2013 use Apple Diagnostics, not Apple Hardware test

If you can't run diagnostics that would indicate a hardware problem with the Mac
