Q: Startup screen turned red, not blue

At start-up, my start screen (display background) has suddenly became red instead of blue. 

And the mouse/trackpad doesn't respond for about one minute after the log-in as' choices appear.

Is this something to be concerned about? What happened?  Need to fix?   How?

 

Once logged in all seems to be fine ,,,  except for another new weirdness

 

Likely totally unrelated .... as of today "Safari Web Content" crashes (not responding) every time attempt to reach Huffington Post. Must "force quite" TWICE for the beach ball of death to deflate.

 

Multiple searches on both of this weirdness resulted in nothing relevant

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), and 3 other Mac desktops

    does it stay red or go back to blue? if so it could be something simple as your background screen or something complex like the GPU.

    boot into safe mode and test, if the problem persists run the HW test

    Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

    Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support

     

    quit out of safari and launch it again while holding down the SHIFT key.

    Stays red

    issue 1. Ran the OS X Diagnostics from boot = reported no issues

    issue 2 Tried the Shift w/ Safari start-up = No change.  Site responds until a new header (feature) appears, then it locks up and Web Content freezes/crashes.  Site works fine from Chrome but I hate Chrome

    are any of the other colors shifted or only the background? If others are shifted it could be the internal cable to the display of your laptop. In which case you may wish to contact apple. If it's only the background create a new user, boot to that user, set the desktop, reboot. If the screen doesn't change color it's likely not a HW issue.

     

    with safari

    check to see if you have the latest Safari from the App Store

    check to see if you have any plug-in that could be causing the crash.

    No other color shift issues at all - including on external screen - just solid permanent red on the startup screen (where asked to select which user is logging in and their password).  Have created a new user and nothing changed.  I don;t care if its red vs blue - just seems weird that it changed suddenly without any explanation or setting change and every time I see that I wonder if there is some hack or worm or other nasty happening in the background that I'm yet unaware of

     

    Have most recent Safari (for Yosemite) TMK -   and no plug-ins other than what apparently comes in/with Safari, Clearing out history and cookies made no difference.

    Have also reset SMC and PRAM = No change

     

    At boot - first screen is black with white apple logo

    then get a solid red screen with the user login selections and password entry box

    What color is it supposed to be?
