Did "sent as text message" go through?

The other night, I was texting another user with an iPhone, usually we have no issues.

They were sending in blue as iMessages, but then when I responded to the user, it turned green and "sent as text message".

It was an important conversation, but I never received a response from the recipient after that, which is a little unusual but i'm not sure if perhaps they didn't respond.

Just wondering, do they sometimes not go through as text messages, or perhaps I never received their response? Not sure if there was a bad connection or what was going on. Thanks.

Generally when conversing in iMessage and something goes through as an SMS, it is because of a data disconnect, on one side or the other. While it will show that it is sent as an SMS, there is nothing other than the recipient responding to let you know if it was received. There is no delivery receipt for SMS. I would just send another message to the recipient to see if they received it, and if not, you can copy and paste and send the message again.
