Using AirDrop

I have an iPhone 6s+ and when I send photos to my 2015 Macbook Pro 15 inch, I have no idea where the photos are stored. Can anyone please help me understand how to view items shared via AirDrop? It doesn't seem intuitive. Thanks 🙂

Thank you...

I read this earlier and am still confused. I sent a pic from my iPhone to my Macbook - my Macbook acknowledged receiving it because I saw a notification pop up across the top right of my screen.

Now, I have no idea where the image is.

I opened the AirDrop on Finder > saw my iPhone was recognized, clicked on my profile and then nothing happens.

Is there a formal folder these get stored in? I even checked my iCloud folders and don't see any formal AirDrop folder.
