Q: Photos program - how do I use something else (Adobe Bridge, Nikon Transfer) to open image files?
My Mac recently updated to the Photos program, and since then it has prevented me from using any other photo program to pull files off of my Nikon DSLR. I shoot in .RAW and .JPG, and cannot open the .RAW files in Photos, not to mention the entire program is a nightmare, and I am prevented by the OS from deleting or disabling Photos. I just want to be able to transfer the files from my camera to my computer via Nikon's Transfer software, and then open everything in Adobe Bridge, like I've been doing for the last ten years, at least half of which have been using my Mac desktop computer. I will even settle for being able to transfer the photos through Adobe Bridge, but NOT A SINGLE PHOTO PROGRAM on my Mac will even recognize that there is a camera (removable disk) attached to my computer...except for Photos. Which will not allow me to open the .RAW files, which I need. I am not super computer savvy, so I'm hoping someone will be able to help me...I am severely distressed that I cannot access my camera and all of the files on it.
iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), null

You can use any software you choose
Photos will process your RAW images if your camera's RAW is supported - Digital camera RAW formats supported by OS X El Capitan - Apple Support - double click on a photos to enlarge, click edit and under the image menu select use RAW as original
to use other programs you can download using image capture to your choice of locations - or export form Photo
and you need to consider why you are shooting RAW plus JPEG - generally it makes more sense to shoot the one you want - either RAW or JPEG - not both
And your Nikon software will work fine after Nikon updates it for El Captain - contact their support for information on their update availability
