ipod classic 160g not syncing with itunes 12.4

since downloading itunes 12.4, it has deleted all my songs off my ipod classic. i've tried to resync it, and though i have 905 songs back on the classic, it's nowhere near the amount of my total (12,000+ songs). every time i try to sync again, it always gets stuck on one song, displaying an "attempting to copy to the disk (insert ipod name) failed. the disk is not available" and a "so-and-so cannot be copied due to an unknown error message (-59)".

in the options menu of the summary tab, i have only these things ticked:

open itunes when this ipod is connected- checked

sync only checked songs and videos- unchecked

convert higher bit rate songs to ...... AAC- unchecked

manually manage music and videos- unchecked

enable disk use- checked

i'm not a technical person so have no idea what those other options are about. what is going on here? im getting real frustrated as this is the first time i've ever experienced this. i've reset my ipod, restarted my laptop, restored my ipod and tried to repair itunes, all to no avail

See Corrupt iPod Classic. What are the HDD stats? Check the source drive for errors. Will the track that it gets stuck on play in iTunes?

i'm not sure what you mean by checking the source drive for errors, but yes, the tracks itunes gets stuck on do play on itunes. it's been like that with about 20 songs now, i've checked all of them and they all play.

i've checked that link you've posted, tried a few ways but still nothing. will try the rest now

do you mean scanning the ipod when i connect it to my laptop? if so, then yes, i've scanned it multiple times and the end result is always clean

UPDATE: so i checked to see if i could send the one song itunes struggles with to sync onto my ipod on its own, and it worked. there has to be some other way of doing this, this is going to take forever otherwise

So what are the HDD stats? These will give an indication of the state of the iPod hard drive.

Yes. You have a dead iPod. The pending sectors are areas of the hard drive that can no longer be read reliably. These are scheduled to be mapped out to reallocations, however those are maxed out. I think 16,384 is the absolute max. count but that's splitting hairs, the drive has clearly had it.
