Q: cant get dictation to work with el capitan

I have followed the instructions for the use of dictation on my new mac and cannot get it to work.  I think it is hearing me but no word appear anywhere in print form.  This would be quite helpful as typing is becoming more difficult to to parkinson's tremors.

Make sure your are follow the instructions in this support article >  Use your voice to enter text on your Mac - Apple Support

 

Aside from Dictation in applications, you might want to check out the accessibility features in System Preferences > Accessibility > Dictation

    If you are not using enhanced dictation, then an Internet connection is required for Dictation to work properly. If the Dictation microphone avatar is on your Desktop, can you say, “show commands,” “hide commands,” or “stop dictation,” and get results? If this is not the case, then it isn't receiving your voice input, and there may be a configuration issue with your audio input. Here is mine:

    In order for your dictation to appear in a document, that document must be front most (selected). If you have an open document, but you have clicked on the Desktop, then your dictation is not captured in the document.
