iphone 4 to ipad air via bluetooth impossible

Hello all, I am trying to use the keynote remote app installed on an iphone 4 to control a keynote presentation on an ipad.


It works fine over wifi.


However as it is something outside, I have to use bluetooth and it doesn't work. The two devices don't even see each others.


I tried all basic steps described everywhere including here:

  1. Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory and iOS device are close to each other.
  2. Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is on and fully charged or connected to power. If it uses batteries, test them to see if they need to be replaced.
  3. Restart your Bluetooth accessory.
  4. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  5. On your iOS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is on. If you can’t turn Bluetooth on or you see a spinning gear, restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  6. Unpair the Bluetooth accessory, put the accessory back in discovery mode, then pair and connect it again.


In order to troubleshoot further, I tried to pair them with my macbook. The ipad pairs without issue.


However the iphone 4 doesn't see the macbook at first. The macbook sees the iphone, so I ask to pair from the macbook. the pairing request pops up on the iphone but the iphone then doesn't pair. It shows my macbook and "not connected", same on the macbook.



Does anyone have a lead and could get me out of this pickle? I need to make it work for Monday or I'll be in trouble.

I understand you'd like to use your iPhone 4 with Keynote Remote to control a presentation on an iPad. You're in the right place for answers.


Using these two devices, you would need have both devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network to use Keynote Remote as expected. Check out this article: Use Keynote Remote on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


If you're using Keynote for iOS 2.5 or later and both of your iOS devices have a Lightning connector, your devices don't have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network. You can also use Bluetooth to connect your devices.*
If you're using an earlier version of Keynote on either device, or if either device has a dock connector (iPhone 4s, iPad 2 and iPad 3rd Generation), make sure that they're both connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Keynote Remote doesn't work over a network hosted by a Mac with Internet Sharing, or a network hosted by an iOS device using Personal Hotspot.


As your iPhone 4 does not have a Lightning connector and instead uses a dock connector, it is a requirement to be on the same Wi-Fi network. You might consider using a newer device, such as an iPod touch with a Lightning connector or iPhone 5 and later, to control the presentation.
