Q: Not waking up

My 2015 iMac will not wake up from overnight sleep with thunderbolt peripherals plugged in. It *will* wake up from display sleep but not from hard drive sleep. When I unplug all thunderbolt devices, it wakes up from overnight, hard drive sleep just fine.

How can I get my iMac to wake up without having to unplug all thunderbolt devices every night?

Thanks!

Tim

Since you are still under warranty, suggest that you call Apple tech support.  Let them deal w/it.

You can see if resetting the SMC will resolve the problem.

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

    Last resort solution

If you are comfortable using the Terminal, try the following:

Enter into the Terminal the following:  sudo pmset autopoweroff 0 and sudo pmset standby 0

If you like the hibernation, you can switch it back on by re-entering the commands with 1's instead of 0's. You can even change the amount of time by adjusting "autopoweroffdelay" and "standbydelay".

Thanks Baby Boomer. I did call Apple Support before posting this and that's what they told me, to reset the SMC. Which I did, to no effect.

I am comfortable with Terminal but would rather fix this problem without turning off hibernation, if at all possible...

Call AS back to let them know their suggestion did not work.   If they request that you bring your iMac in for diagnostics/repair, ask about their "On Site Service." It's available to those on AppleCare who have desktops.  Not sure if this service is available to those who have not purchased AppleCare but just have the standard 1 yr warranty.

If you have not purchased AppleCare, you can either do so, or call Customer Relations to see what they can do for you regarding On Site Service.

Not sure if hibernation is actually turned off if your Energy Saver settings are set to where you want them to be.
