Q: iOS Enterprise Devices Won't Open PDFs That Are Attached to EMail
Good morning,
Among other duties (who doesn't know about THAT, huh?), I manage and provide support for mobile devices in my enterprise.
Of late, I have some executives reporting that PDF files attached to emails won't open. When attempting to open them from the native email app in iOS, the screen goes dark but, when touched again, a blank native PDF reader screen comes up and the "Done" option is available, as if it thinks it did read something.
Opening in iBooks gets the same result.
Installing the Acrobat Reader app from Adobe also gets the same result.
What makes this especially odd is that we run AirWatch, here, in development, at the moment. I've installed Boxer on a few of my experimental iDevices and, lo and behold! If the email is read/opened in Boxer and we try to read the PDF file, it works!
The attachments open just fine in Outlook on Windows desktop and laptop computers.
We've only had an opportunity to try this on one Android device and the PDF attachment wouldn't open on it, either, so it may not be entirely an iOS issue.
It appears that this occurred before, in earlier versions of iOS, so I'm continuing to try to run it down, but I'd definitely appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks!
- Dave
