HELP! Clips freeze after export. DVD/Master file both affected.

2013 iMAC 27" w. 24GB RAM

OSX El Capitan 10.11.2

FCPX 10.3.2

Hi all! Please help.

I'm working on a long-form wedding edit. About 1.5 hours long. All the clips play back fine in my timeline. BUT when I export, a bunch of clips "freeze" (ie video stops, audio keeps playing). I've tried many possible solutions:

- creating new Project and pasting clips into it

- creating new Project at a different frame rate (footage was shot in 29.97, tried exporting in 29.97 and 23.98)

- delete render files from project, re-render and export

- DVD / Master File exports (h.264, ProRes LT) all experience the same freeze issues.

Footage plays back in the timeline and event browser with NO issues.

Footage was shot on Canon 6D @ 1080 / 30fps IPB

Please help!! Thanks so much.

Why not go back into the project. Identify one of the clips that is being used in the timeline at a freeze point. See if it will allow you to transcode the clip (Right Click) to "Optimized". Select a section in the timeline and export a master file and see how it plays.

Russ

edit: that is, select a sectioin that includes the transcoded clip.

Thanks man! The freezing has been occurring at the same points each time I export. Nothing is different about this video as far as I know. Shot and edited same as all the others that work....

I'm remembering that I did update fcpx to the new version (whichever version changed the file structure to Library/Project/Event) at some point along the line....can't recall exactly when, but there is a chance that this project was updated during that process before finishing. Wonder if that would be part of the issue? But again, no other projects are giving me this problem.

Uh, holy moly. I think this worked!! The only bummer is that I will likely need to re-cut the entire ceremony (several cameras edited into a compound clip) as I don't see a way to easily transcode and replace all of those cuts. But at least this tells me how to fix the freezing issue.

Thanks very much for your attention and help, Russ! Really appreciate it. Have a great day. 🙂
