Q: From old iMac to new iMac?
I've posted before, but am now ready to move on from my 2007 24" iMac to a 2015 5K model. The old OS is Leopard (10.5.8) and the new one is ...the newest (Sierra). I was told to attach the old Time Machine USB 2.0 backup drive to my new machine before first starting it up and following the prompts. Obviously software may no longer be compatible, but I'd like to transfer as many files over from the old machine to the new as possible so that I can retire the 24", or at least re-purpose it.
Is this the best method. Should I do add some steps to the process or do something else? Should I be aware of anything special during this process? Please advise.
Thanks!

Yes, but if you restore from a full Time Machine backup, it will be from an previous system, which will not run on your new Mac. (I don't know if TM would bring over any system files) If you just want to transfer files it should work.
