Q: Vanishing Harry Potter Books?

I purchased the entire Harry Potter eBook collection from Pottermore over a year ago. I manually downloaded the books and added them to iBooks on my iMac. Then I synced both my iPad and iPhone to the computer and had the collection on all three of my devices. Worked great and all the books were functional and worked great on all devices. The other day I went to read one of them on my iPhone and noticed they were all gone. After that, I went to my iPad and noticed they were also gone from that device as well. The books were, however, still available in iBooks on my iMac.  I found this odd, since I hadn't synced eeither device with the computer in several months. I then tried to synch both devices to the iMac, but, even though the books are still clearly uploaded to iBooks on my computer, they do not appear at all in iTunes.  The only books I now have available are the onEs purchased through iBooks.  Did Apple change something with the last update to iTunes or something? Cant figure out why this would happen to just those particular books that have, up until now, worked just fine.

    Jon Corry,

I understand that you'd like to get those Harry Potter books back on your iPad and iPhone. I would be happy to provide you with some assistance. To get the books back on your iOS devices, I recommend that you re-import the EPUB or PDF files back into your iTunes Library as a first step.

Take a look at this website for more information:

Frequently asked questions about iBooks - Apple Support

Can I download books from other websites?

Yes, you can download EPUB and PDF files on your Mac or PC. To add them to your iTunes library, choose File > Add to Library, or drag the EPUB or PDF file to the Books library on your computer. If you're using OS X Mavericks or later, you can add them to your library in iBooks. To read your books, sync them to your device. The books must be in one of the above supported formats.

Once you've finished importing the books, try re-syncing them to your devices using the steps listed here:

Use iBooks with PDF documents on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

    • Select your iOS device. (Learn how to sync your data with iTunes.)
    • Under Settings, click Books.
    • Select Sync Books.
    • If iTunes is set to sync only selected books, make sure that there's a check in the checkbox next to the PDF you want to sync.
    • Click Sync.

    Cheers.

Gave it a shot, no luck.  They are clearly imported into iBooks.  I can see them there and I can open them and they work fine.  When i plug in a device and attempt to synch with iTunes, the books are not appearing in iTunes.  I saw on other threads that it sometimes is caused by iTunes categorizing them as audiobooks, but this does not appear to be the case in my predicament... makes no sense.
