Macbook Pro Screen is still on with wallpaper and dock on after shutdown and restart

So, I have Macbook Pro with OSx El Capitan 10.11.5 (15F34) // the latest one and now everytime I click shutdown or restart, the screen is still on with wallpaper and the dock, but the desktops' items disappear. Help, I waited for 1 hour but it's still on. I even can click on the dock and open the apps but after I quit the apps and same thing happens. Only left the wallpaper and dock on. Please, anyone know how to solve this? I already tried to reinstall the OSx and still the same. HELP! URGENT!

Hi Mychel,

If my Mac wouldn't shut down as it should, I'd be looking for help to get this problem fixed. Since this isn't how your Mac is supposed to shut down after selecting those choices from the Apple Menu, I'll need to get your help in determining if it's just your user account affected or if it's throughout your entire MacBook Pro.

If you haven't already discovered though, you can hold the power button to turn off your MacBook Pro.

Before any type of troubleshooting, I always recommend creating a fresh back up of your personal data to keep it safe.

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

Here are the steps to use in order. After trying each one, see if your MacBook Pro will shut down correctly from the Apple Menu.

1. Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

2. How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac

3. Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

4. How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac
