Q: An Apple ID Mess

So my mother has an iPhone 5 and it has been recently showing the blue screen of death and restarting continually whenever she would go into a certain app, and even when not, so I decided I wanted to try and fix this. Ideally I thought of deleting the app but noticed that the phone itself including iTunes on her PC was not updated so had both the phone updated to the newest version 9.3.2 and iTunes to 12.4.1.6. After having done that I updated the iPhone's Apple ID to a new email, as the email it was written under was deleted and therefor wasn't relevant anymore. So I signed into the Apple ID, changed the email (or Apple ID) to her current email address and thought everything would be peachy, but this is where things got really annoying. Even though I had updated the apple ID to her current email and managed to log in online, and even though it seems to recognize the phone through "find my phone" online, everything else on the phone itself still references the old email (Apple ID) and I don't know how to change that.

I've looked on this forum which mentioned going to iTunes & App Store and signing in there but every time I do it says the "Verification failed as there was an error connecting to the apple ID server". I've tried signing out of the iCloud (which is still written under the old Apple ID email) but then it prompts the password of the old Apple ID (which is completely the same as the current one) and it won't work. Same thing with trying to restore the phone to original settings, when I try to do that it mentions that I need to turn off "Find my phone", but when i try to do that it again asks me for the password of the previous Apple ID. I've tried going to "Find my phone" online and taking off the phone from there, but it keeps reconnecting once the phone is online.

So basically what I want to do at this stage is restore the iPhone and have it synced with iCloud and the correct Apple ID (which i thought if i had all these things up to date and refreshed, it would prevent the phone from the blue screen and continually rebooting). What do I need to do!?

ps: apologies for posting this here and in iCloud, wasn't sure which one was more appropriate.

Since you have recently changed the Apple ID, follow these steps:

What to do after you change your Apple ID email address or password - Apple Support

There are lots of services you will need to sign out an back in. As for the verification issue check

So I've been going through the two links you gave and have been noticing that everything i do on the computer is working fine but the iPhone doesn't seem to be connecting to the apple ID server at all!

In the second link it suggests "Go to your Apple ID account page and try to sign in. If you can't sign in, follow the steps provided there to reset your Apple ID account password." but the thing is, when I do that on my PC it works perfectly fine. It's just when I try it through my iPhone that it mentions verification failure and I can't understand why. Because of that it won't let me update anything on my phone regarding my new Apple ID.

Also in your first link I found this which would have been perfect -

"If iCloud asks you for the password to your previous Apple ID"

    And it suggests to

    1. Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
    2. Click Edit in the Account section, then click Change Email Address.
    3. Change your Apple ID to the email address that iCloud is asking you to sign in with.
    4. Sign out of your account page.

but the problem is that once I change it back to the email address that iCloud is asking, it asks for a verification code which is emailed to that address - and my mother has no access to that email at all anymore. What should I do?

on her computer, the actual iCloud folder and program works on the new Apple ID, as well as on manage my account.

    Any more ideas?

Then I'm afraid you will need to contact Apple Support to help you on this, we here are users and there are thing we cannot do.

Check at https://getsupport.apple.com/ the Apple ID section and make and appointment with a Genius so they can guide you through the process of restoring everything as it should be.

Yeah I kinda thought that might be where I'm headed. How about this, what if I remotely erase the iPhone through find my iPhone? would that not do the same as restoring it through iTunes?

Thanks for your help so far!

Yes, you can remote as if it was stolen and set it as a new device. But if the issues are in the account, make sure you have all the information with you!

OK What I ended up doing was restore the settings which solved everything! For some reason even though it was prompting me the old Apple ID, the current password solved the problem this time. I tried completely restoring the phone aswell and using a backup, but after i had done that it just went back to the same situation it was in before. So just the settings restore seemed to have work it out!

    thanks for your help mabaeyens!
