Q: How to use my imac as an external screen for my macbook pro?

I am trying to figure out if it's possible to connect my imac (early 2009) to use as an external larger screen for use with my macbook pro (late 2013).

 

Can anyone share any information on whether it is possible, and which adapter would work?

It's not possible with an Early 2009 iMac.
