Q: How do I backup WhatsApp media/chat properly?

I've followed all steps of the 'troubleshoot iCloud problems' in the link you provided, but none of them have worked. I still get the error when pressing 'Backup Now'.

Also WhatsApp mentions 'If you are having problems backing up to or restoring from iCloud, this is likely not an issue with WhatsApp but with the iCloud account.'

How to solve this?

The exact error by the way is: Sorry, there isn't enough available storage on your iPhone to create an iCloud backup. WhatsApp needs 1,71GB more of free space. Make space by deleting existing videos or photos and try again.

My iCloud shows there is 30,5GB of available storage.

There is currently 993MB backed up of WhatsApp documents & data in my iCloud.

On my iPhone my WhatsApp documents & data is taking up 2,3GB.

I can login on iCloud.com without any problems.

What should I do now?

I ended up removing 1,7GB of other apps, to see of that helped. It worked and backed up fine to iCloud.

Then I deleted and reinstalled WhatsApp. Guess what: When I click 'Restore Chat History' it says 'Sorry, there isn't enough room on your iPhone to restore from your iCloud backup. Make room by deleting existing videos or photos and try again'. While there is 3,5GB's of free space now!!!! Kill me.

Also it notifies me that if I do not restore the history now, I will not be able to restore later. So that means there is not really an other option now than to let everything disappear. Great job Apple / WhatsApp.
