Q: Black screen and mac start-up tune repeated.

Hello,

I have a iMac 27' with 8gb ram i7 cpu and 2010 model with the newer os software.

In two weeks ago when i press start button i listen the classical mac start-up tune be repeated and the sceen is always black. Nothing more.It is repeated and repeated when i close manually my iMac.

You can't press cmd+R or something other.

I try disconnect from socket, disconnect all usb and fireware devices but nothing. The problem is the same.

Does anyone know something to help me ?

Thanks

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), iOS 5.0.1

It sounds like a hardware problem. You can try starting in Safe Mode.

If this doesn't work take it in to any Apple Store for a free evaluation.

Make sure nothing is laying on the keyboard and mouse, or the Magic trackpad if you have one.

Disconnect all USB devices except the mouse and keyboard and try again.

According to this Apple article article:

Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support

Apple considers our 2010 iMacs "vintage" and will no longer provide hardware service except in certain states or countries whose laws override the usually published support procedures. As a 27-inch iMac is hard to carry, you must call the Apple store and clearly identify your model before taking it in for service. Otherwise you will pack the awkward package through some shopping mall and all you'll get is exercise and some funny looks!

That policy often does not extend to independent Apple Authorized Service Providers. However, if parts are required, the AASP may not be able to get them from Apple and be forced to use used/pulled parts.
