Q: I would like my photos backed up...will time capsule do that and can I go back and forth to use the photos?

Hi!

I have a Macbook 2006 A1182. I need to back up photos from it and from my iphone 5 as storage is very full. Is the time capsule the best system?

Thank You! Nina

If you want to save storage space on you're phone, import your images to Photos.

If you want to save storage space on your main computer drive, invest inanexternal drive and keep the tire Photos Library on that drive. Just remember to startup the drive before launching Photos.

Time Machineis a backup system, not a storage system. You should always have a backup of your main drive and external drives. Time Machine with another external drive makes it very easy to always have everything backed up.

In addition to Rysz's comments, as far as the Photos app on your Mac, Time Machine will make periodic backup of the entire Photos Library. You can then go into Time Machine and restore any of these backups. What Time Machine will not do is allow you to simply backup or restore individual photos from the Photos Library. However, if you do store photos outside of the Photos app on your Mac, these will be backed up with Time Machine, and can be individually restored.
