Q: Getting rid of data on HD in 2008 iMAC

How do I get rid of  data on my HD so I can safely recycle my 2008 IMAC. I did deauthorize the computer  to connect with iTunes . Is clearing the HD the only other thing to do before you can safely recycle .

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

Click here and follow the instructions. When you reach step 5, insert its original disk, restart with the C or Option key held down, and use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive.
