Q: Podcasts refuses to download episodes

Hi,

I'm using Podcasts on 9.3.2 on my iPhone 5S. I have set it to synchronize with my computer and AppleTV via iCloud. I have also denied it access to cellular data because I have a limited data plan. The problem is that Podcasts refuses to download new episodes via wi-fi during the 10 hours or so that the iPhone is on my home network.

Podcasts notifies me when new episodes are available, but it does not download them. When I try to play them in my car, I get an error because it can't download the episode via LTE.

AFAIK, this happens with certain podcasts. Some podcasts, the episodes download normally, but in some podcasts, a cloud icon is displayed next to the episode, which is downloaded only if I initiate playback.

This is not supposed to be the case. The default for all podcasts is to download the most recent episodes, and to keep the three most recent unplayed episodes. So, is Podcasts NOT downloading ALL new episodes via wi-fi when it notifies me that new episodes are available on my home wi-fi.

Thanks in advance.

If this occueres with some, but not all, podcast episodes, I would start with the assumption that the settings differ. Please compare all your subscription settings between those that do download and those that don't. Check your preferences in Settings > Podcasts, in the Podcasts app and in iTunes.

All these combinations became quite complex, so it's very easy to loose track of them.

Nope. All settings are identical. I had already checked this previously. AFAICT, this is a function of Podcasts, and not of the individual podcasts.
