Should I update my 2010 MacBook?

Should I update my 2010 MacBook? I am a novice and use it mostly to store photos, email and internet. Thanks in advance.

Mac OS X 10.6.8

The specs are: MacBook7,1

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz

L2Cache: 3MB

Memory: 4GB

Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB memory

Generally speaking you should always upgrade to the latest possible system that you meet the specs for, as long as you have no “must have” apps that do not meet the specs. Upgrades and updates contain important security improvements plus additional features.


Although Apple states 2 GB RAM 4-6 GB is really a minimum. Yours shpould be upgradeable to 16GB. You can check that with the advisory tool in Crucial, or OWC. After adding RAM I would do the update it to El Capitan.
