Q: Deleted photos on iPhone after importing them into Photos on my macbook...
Hello.
Recently I connected my iphone (6S) to my macbook air, and imported my photos onto Photos (not iPhoto).
Then I proceeded to delete all of my photos on my phone, and also deleted them from my "recently deleted".
However as I checked Photos later, all of my recently imported photos were gone.
So does this mean that importing photos onto Photos is not a backup for my phone, but rather just a syncing of my photo library?
If not I'd like to retrieve my lost photos, if possible.

Are you using iCloud Photo Library? If so this this may help:
iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support
Deleting photos from the iPhone will also delete them from the Mac if ICPL is on. I would log on to iCloud.com asap and see if your photos are still there and check for recently deleted.
From the article above:
Do I need a Backup?
iCloud Photo Library stores all of your original photos and videos in iCloud, but we always recommend you keep back up copies of your Library. You can download your photos and videos from iCloud to your computer and store them as a separate library, transfer them to another computer with Image Capture or Photos, or store them on a separate drive.
