ITunes asking for billing info?

I'm trying to gift a song to a friend, but I couldn't on my IPhone so I decided to download Itunes on my laptop and gift it there. I have 10.50 in my ITunes account, more than enough, so I tried and it asked me for billing information. I don't want to put my information into ITunes as I have enough in my account. Is there any way to avoid this or is it mandatory? If it is mandatory, will it charge my account even when I have enough in my ITunes?

I'm getting so frustrated it's hilarious, someone please help.

To set up an iTunes Store account without a credit card, follow these directions:

And yes, if you have credit in your account, new charges will be deducted from the credit first, before resorting to credit card.

Like most retailers, the iTunes Store does not allow the use of store credit balance to buy a gift. To gift a song to someone, you must have an active credit card on file.

Your $10.50 credit can be used to buy content for your own account.
