Apple mail - giving a ref number to each incoming and outgoing email

Question

I receive and send quite a bit of mail. Is it possible to give a unique number or reference to each email being sent so it can be tracked easily?

and this automatically (not like in e.g. Mailhub)

Apple Mail is not going to do this. You can search 3rd party apps/plug-ins:
