Q: weird error on iphone sync

when syncing my iphone 6 plus to my macbook pro's SSD via itunes, every time i get this error at the end of the sync process.

warningSSD.jpeg

(translation: the attempt to copy to volume 'jayD's mbook SSD 430GB' failed. an unknown error occurred (-54).)

when i click ok, the process finishes. on the iphone, all data seems ok. but i have not checked the backup on my SSD so far. i fear it is somwhat incomplete.

weird:

- this does NOT happen when syncing my ipad mini retina to the macbook pro.

- this does NOT happen when syncing iphone or ipad to my desktop mac pro.

so, the problem seems related to the SSD, but only occurs with the iphone.

questions:

- what is wrong here?

- how can i fix it?

- is my iphone backup okay?

thank you!

iphone: iOS 9.3.2*

ipad: iOS 9.3.2

macbook pro: 13", early 2011, macOS 10.11.5*

SSD: main system disk, sandisk SDS SDH II 480GB

* but problem happened on earlier versions, too

iPhone 6, iOS 9, iPhone 6 plus

    Hi mdesignffm,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding you've been experiencing issues when trying to sync your iPhone with your MacBook Pro. I can surely see how this would be concerning especially since this is occurring only with this phone on this computer. I am happy to help.

First, please make sure iTunes is up to date. If you still have issues please follow the troubleshooting steps in this article:

after temporarily removing photos and pdfs from my iphone, the error disappeared.

now, everything is back on. and the error seems gone, too. let's hope this will last.

thank you for your help, sarah!
