Q: redeemed a gift card but did not have my account open to do this. Therefore even thought the amount is in the account iTunes wants to bill my credit card and it does not allow me to use my redeemed gift card. What steps do I use to correct this?

I redeemed a gift card this morning. I did not open my account to do this. I only went to the iTunes store and entered my password to redeem the gift card.

When I went to purchase a song iTunes wanted to charge my credit card instead of using my gift card. Can I correct this so my credit card is not charged and my gift card pays for the purchase?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Why do you think it is trying to charge your credit card?

If the balance shows on your account, then the purchase should be applied to the credit automatically.
