Q: just downloaded El Capitan software from apple

w/i week downloaded El Capitan lastest version from Apple & 1 file from pages refuses to open w/message: Required Index.xmi file no available.  How to fix & retrieve this.  Also it says it is now a pdf file which I did not do!!  Help!!!

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

    When you install El Capitan, the new version of Pages is installed in the Applications folder, but the old version is put in an iWork folder.

    The old version cannot read the new format. Make sure you are opening the files with the new version and vice versa. The new version can export to the old version format.
