Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. I know how important being able to make phone calls on your iPhone is to you!
If I understand correctly, your iPhone screen remains black after making a phone call and remains that way unless you restart your phone completely. Let’s use these steps to narrow down if this is a software or hardware issue, and help resolve this.
1. First, backup your personal data and import your pictures to a computer. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
2. The next easiest step would be to reset settings on your phone and test the issue. This will narrow down if this a settings issue. Go on your phone to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings. This will not affect personal data, only settings.3. To narrow down if this could be a hardware issue, the next step, if you're still having an issue, would be to restore your iPhone in iTunes on a computer. This will install a fresh copy of your iPhone software. Then set up the phone as new to test the issue.
Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings
If your issue is resolved, then restore your backup that you made to put your personal data back on your iPhone.
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup
Cheers!
