Q: Ethernet and Apple Extreme

When I connect my Apple Extreme to my Linksys 120n wifi/modem should I disable the modem wifi. And should I connect my hard wired ethernet for my home network to the Linksys or the Apple Extreme. Macbooks on the network can see the hard drive connected to the extreme's USB but my smart TV and AV receiver can not. They are hard wired vis cat 5 ethernet or can be wifi. Thanks

    Hello Gerrydir,

Thanks for asking your question here in the Apple Communities. To ensure you get the best answer based on the setup you are hoping to achieve, here are the articles I recommend to assist you with your question.

    AirPort Extreme Setup Guide

    Plugging In Your AirPort Extreme

Before you plug in your AirPort Extreme, rst connect the appropriate cables to the ports you want to use:

    • Connect the Ethernet cable that’s connected to your DSL or cable modem (if you’ll connect to the Internet) to the Ethernet WAN port (<) .

    • Connect a USB cable from the USB port (d) on your AirPort Extreme to a compatible USB printer, a hard disk, or a hub.

    • Connect an Ethernet cable from any Ethernet device to any of the Ethernet LAN ports (G). After you connect the cables for all the devices you plan to use, connect the power cord to the power port and plug your AirPort Extreme into a power outlet. There is no power switch.

Important: Use only the power cord that came with your AirPort Extreme.

When you plug the AirPort Extreme power cord into a power outlet, the status light glows amber during startup, and then ashes amber during setup. The status light glows green after your AirPort Extreme is set up and connected to the Internet or a network.

When you connect Ethernet cables to the Ethernet ports, the lights above them glow solid green.

Wi-Fi base stations: Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations

If you have a different Airport device than the setup guide I provided, please check here for your specific setup guide: AirPort Manuals.

    Cheers.

THank you and it now the extreme is set up via ethernet. But should I disable the wifi from the Linksys modem as I now have two wireless networks one created by Linksys and one by Apple extreme/express. Thanks
