Q: How to completely erase an iPad

My friend gave me her iPad. She doesn't remember her password, never wrote it down. She has no other device to remove the iPad from her account.

I have tried to erase by restoring using iTunes, but it is still asking for her Apple ID and password.

The iPad has iOS 9.3.2 installed.

What are our options?

It requires the Apple ID and password of the previous owner. If you don't have it and cannot get it, then the device is useless to you. Return it for a refund, if you can, or take it to an Apple store for an exchange provided they will help you.

Apple will not help anyone with a locked ipad unless they are the original owner and can produce the original receipt for the ipad.

KauaiKid here.

I figured out how to do this. I got together with her using my MacBook Pro. We changed her email password, which then allowed me to use the changed password it on the iPad.

Once I entered the changed password, setting up the iPad was easy.

The only way this worked was by changing her gmail password, but it did work.
