Q: Password Protection Needed

I want to place a password on my laptop while traveling. How Do I Lock my Puter While Traveling? Can you please send a link or give me very simple and clear instructions "HOW TO" ?  Will I use my admin code ? Will I need a new password? What settings will I put in place ? Wil I have to change screen saver timing and sleep timing to "never"?  I usually close my lid when I leave the room to let puter rest - It's only at home and it's only me and hubby in the house - HOWEVER, I am concerned with upcoming summer travels.
