Q: Need to stop Safari from insisting I am in another country

I bought and set up my Mac in the USA. I then traveled with it to about 7 countries and all was well. However, my last country was Israel and even though I have been back in the US (mainland) for 5 months now, Safari still insists I am in Israel.

Sometimes I see pricing in shekels.

Odder, sometimes I see pricing in pounds although none of my devices have been in the UK.

My Search page -- default set to Duck Duck Go -- says Israel.

And when I am logged out of my Google Maps account, it defaults to Hebrew.

I have my timezone set to California.

What else can I do to tell Safari I want English?!

I have been looking and trying for 5 months. Actually, over a year because I never wanted Hebrew. (Love the language but can't read it well.)

This happened in 19.9x, remained in 10.9.5 and remains now that I am in 10.11.5

Have you set the correct settings for Location Services?

Thank you for the blindingly fast response! But yes, I have Location Services on and Safari is among the apps. I didn't post what I'd tried because I can't recall all that I'd tried.

After so many months of frustration, I figured out one part. On a Duck  Duck Go results page, I turned ON the location and was able to select United States. So that one bit is ok.

I wonder if it's Google that is having the problem more than Safari. I have set and reset all of the Google preferences as well over the year.

This was helpful in that it reminded me what is working and reinforced that it may be Google.

The settings of DDG would have been my next suggestion.

Google has such settings too: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/179386?hl=en

    Partial success.

I have now gone through my System Prefs and using Seach, found every Region and Language setting and made certain they say English. I also deleted Hebrew just to be safe.

I also went into my Google settings and actually selected English. But then I logged out and it's still in Hebrew. However, some success in that this time, when I changed the language setting at the bottom to English, Google recognized it through many login and log outs including relaunching Safari.

What remained an issue is Google Maps. So... more success: Using another browser where there is not this issue (the issue has only ever been in Safari) I compared the Preferences menu that's at the left side (when in English) and I found a Language Pref. I have now set that to English as well and it appears to be holding.

I still have no clue why Safari never got stuck in Lithuanian, Polish, Croatian, etc but stuck with Hebrew. Maybe now it is solved. If this holds for a few days I'll mark it solved.

I do know from some websites and can share with others that each website that lists items and prices chooses how they find your language. (I was surpised by that.) So I will have to hope that I won't get stuck in shekels or pounds again at some point.

Thank you for sharing your time with me through this.
