Can't connect External Hardrive - MacBook 12 inch

I just bought a 2015 MacBook 12 inch with USB - C port. I have an old 2012 MacBook Air 13 inch. I successfully backed up my old files (2012 MacBook Air) through time machine using an external hard drive (WD My Passport Ultra, 2TB). When connecting my external drive to my recently purchased MacBook 12 inch using an Apple- branded USB - C adapter, I could not find/ locate my external drive. I tried connecting my external drive to a 2013 iMac and the iMac was able to locate the external drive. I reformatted the Hardrive as suggested by a friend and it still won't work on my 2015 Ma. Need help!

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.

If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.
