News app won't change region

My wife recently moved country, and changed iTunes Store as a result. She's coming from from Ireland (a country which doesn't have the News app) to the UK (which does have the News app). When we changed country by changing the billing address, the News app appeared but it's the US News app, which a heavy focus on US stuff and no access to some UK stuff like the BBC, etc.

Has anyone been able to resolve this? Clearing the News app's data from iCloud using the iCloud preferences does nothing to force it to change to UK, and all the localisation options are set to UK.

Hello Zcott,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

My understanding is your wife is wanting to see news from the UK in the Apple News App. I can certainly understand wanting to see the news that is most important to her!

If she will be staying in the UK, I would suggest changing the setting on the iPhone's Language & Region to the UK. You can find instructions on how to do this here: Change the language on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

She can also select Favorites to be sure the sources she likes are available.

Favorites

The channels and topics you select when you first open News appear in Favorites. Favorites also includes channels and topics you add later.

User uploaded file

Browse a channel’s stories. Tap a channel or publication to see the most recent published stories. Some publishers also let you browse sections, such as political stories or stories about food. On iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, press to preview a list of stories.

Edit your favorites. Tap Edit, then tap User uploaded file to delete a channel or topic that you no longer wish to follow. On iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, press, swipe up, then tap Remove from Favorites.

There is more information about the New app available here: Apple News

Cheers!

I'm also seeing this and it's driving me nuts. I've moved form the UK to Australia, along with my iPhone and iPad. Both have been switched over to Australia on all settings. My Apple account (iTunes/App Store) has been switched to Australia. I have also received an iPhone and iPad from work, and set them up from new using my personal Apple ID and iCloud accounts. They show Australian News, despite using iCloud to sync! I also see channels on my new work devices, such as ABC News, which when I open on my old devices I get an error saying that the content is not available in my region.

So basically the two devices that I bought over from the UK think that they are still in the UK, not matter what I do with regional settings in iOS or against Apple Accounts.

Final interesting observation... I have the the BBC News app (not related to Apple News app) installed on all devices. When I open it on the new iPad that I set up in Australia I see adverts. I don't see that on my old iPad, even after a factory reset and restore from my backups. I know that the BBC app shows ads to people outside of the UK, so it also seems to think the older devices are still in the UK, despite all regional settings being changes.

Ok, so I've fixed this issue on both my iPhone and iPad. Unfortunately it required me to put the devices in recovery mode, restore it fresh from iTunes and then set it up again as a NEW device and not restore from backup.

If you use a backup or restore from iCloud when your phone is reset, it won't work - skip all of the options when it starts up and then logon later once you have access to the phone and have opened up the news app. It's inconvenient as you will need to reinstall the apps and setup you had before, but it does fix the issue!
