Apple TV Home Sharing not working (Windows 10, iTunes 12.4.1.6)

I have two 3rd generation Apple TV's in my house and the home sharing used to work perfectly on it when streaming content from the copy of iTunes on my Windows 10 desktop computer. But ever since doing a clean install of Windows 10 this has not worked.

I have search online for the solution and have tried everything.... but nothing is working.

It is not the firewall on the computer or the router as disabling both makes no difference

Running iTunes in a different compatibility mode doesn't help

Changing the computers name doesn't do it...

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Airplay works perfectly, it's just home sharing that doesn't.

Thank you in advance

I have finally solved this issue for myself. I've had the apple tv-windows 10-itunes problem since at least summer '16. I tried all the fixes I've seen here and other forums, but none of them worked. This is what I did:

1. Turned ipv6 back on -- either way it didn't make a difference. But for the following I left it on

2. Renamed my home network by going into the router settings. A pain in the butt, yes. Although my laptop was connecting to 'network' it was showing it was connected to 'network 2' since I had changed routers and used the same name. I believe the airplay issue existed before the new router

3. I did not change my ports like so many forum threads suggest. I'm using Avast, for the record

4. Connected Amazon Echo to the guest network in case there was an issue with the Echo broadcasting a signal

For Home Sharing to work, the ATV and iTunes must be on the same Apple ID. That doesn't affect AirPlay. Check the ID on your iTunes. You may find some information here Get help with Home Sharing - Apple Support. By the way, the router firewall, which looks at internet traffic has nothing to do with this. The Windows firewall must open certain ports to allow communication between the different machines.

There's clearly something wrong with Home Sharing and Apple TV in the current versions. I thought the issue was only with Apple TV 4, so I'm glad you posted your information.

I'm experiencing the same issue, but the only thing we have in common is iTunes 12.4, so perhaps that's the cause?

Please report this issue directly to Apple via this link:

Whilst I'm using Macs home sharing is not a problem for any of our computers or Apple TV's, if you have a problem I suspect it is likely to be within your environment and not with home sharing per se.

Ok, I was able to resolve the issue by uninstalling iTunes and installing an older version.
I downloaded iTunes version 12.2.1 from http://www.iphonefirmware.com/download-old-versions-of-itunes/#1440545766410-6db 4627e-e452

and now it is all working fine again.

This appears to be a weird issue with the latest iTunes and Windows 10.

But hey, it's working again! Now we can add this to one of the many possible solutions to this issue.

Hopefully Apple will resolve this soon, although I am unlikely to update this copy of iTunes again ;-)
