Q: Magic Mouse 2 won't scroll

I just bought a new Magic Mouse, this one is MM 2.

It took some doing to connect it, but I cannot get it to scroll. In Mouse system prefs, I have tracking speed and double-click speed, but no options showing to set up the scrolling feature that I had in my old Magic Mouse (from around 2014).

Under Bluetooth in my control bar at top of desktop, it says my mouse is connected, but the icon looks like my very old wired mouse with the little tracking button top center. (Screenshot attached) Note that I have had to use this over the past few days (the old wired one) because I'm working on my desktop computer and without the new MM 2 working, I had to have some way to access preferences and to restart, etc.

Now back to the Mouse preferences.... if I'm in the Mouse Prefs and I click on the Set Up Bluetooth Mouse, the next screen searches and searches, and indicates "no mouse found." (Screen shot attached)

By the way I use OS 10.10.4. I've seen some notes online that the MM 2 needs to have El Capitan to work properly. But I dare not update to El Capitan because I own a graphic design company and I've seen too many indications that my InDesign CC will have a lot of conflicts with El Capitan, or not work at all.

Very frustrating. Please note I've owned Macs since 1991 and have never encountered anything quite like this. I would like to have my scrolling capability back!!

Thank you to one and all,

Susan

Susan,  I hate to say this but Magic Mouse 2 is meant for El Capitan.  It says so on the box.   It will only function as  designed for when using that OS.   So you must put it away until you can use £l Capitan and buy one of the MM! mice or some other brand to meet your current needs.     I know how you must feel but the El Capitan OS is far ahead of it's predecessors and is almost certainly intended to set the style for some way into the future.  This is why it was necessary to design a mouse to meet some of the unique qualities of El Capitan while preparing for subsequent upgrades.   It had to come sometime.

Thanks so much. Unfortunately, I relied on the advice of the customer service rep at the Apple store and told him I was still using Yosemite. So I never looked at the packaging since he told me this was the mouse I needed. They don't even have the old one. (I went back a few minutes ago to check. All they had was one old wired mouse.) Guess I will turn to an online purchase to find one. I appreciate your comments.

Check Apple on line.  Beware of purchases from eBay and the like.   Amazon should be fine where the offer is described as new.   I hope the store refunded your money.   You are entitled to it.

Thank you for the helpful mark.
